2017 is Year of Sculpture: the Insect Invasion!
For the past two months I’ve been working with some new materials – an epoxy clay and metal powders. The difficulty I find with casting straight epoxy is that it feels like plastic. The new and more expensive clay feels great and has a density and texture which is closer to metal. Lovely stuff. 2016 was probably the roughest year of my personal life, followed by the worst 3 months of 2017, which have been terribly sad. The best thing about 2016 though was spending time with my father and learning how to sculpt. I feel like I’ve come home when I pick up clay. It is the material of my life.
I’ve always had a fascination with insects even when I was a small child. I suspect if I had known that could be an entomologist when I was a child I would have chosen that over Astronaut. Now at least I get to create my own.
Kind regards,
